Garage Sale : Beavers Road Northcote 3070

Lets start with an explantion..

We had two garage sales in Beavers Road Northcote, the first on Saturday 28th February 2004 and the second on Saturday 14th October 2006.

The first garage sale was massive, even the residents were shocked to see so many buyers in the street early on the Saturday morning. It hadn't hurt that I managed to get onto radio (John Faine | 774 ABC) a few minutes before the 11am news on the Friday before the sale and pitch to Melbourne what a great idea 'street garage sales' were.

I remember a lady driving all the way from Mordialloc saying she heard me on the radio and 'just had to come and see'.. she wasn't disappointed.

Around 30 houses up and down Beavers Road combined on the day to form a massive street sale. We met a number of neighbours for the very first time, which was lovely.

We enjoyed a very good sale along with our next door neighbours who were shocked at the number of buyers who kept coming and coming until around 3pm when Diabetes Australia turned up with an empty truck.

We started at one end, and walked the length of Beavers Road saying to neighbours, if they had items (not sold) they were welcome to donate them by putting them in the back of the truck. By the end of Beavers Road, the truck was full! DA rang and told me on the following Tuesday that they had never received such a good donation of very good items and to thank our neighbours.

We held a second sale in 2006 but it was never going to reach the dizzy heights of the first sale, but we had a good time and sold just about everything we had for sale.

I'll now be honest and say I was shocked and disappointed to find Beavers Road neighbours 'west' of St Georges Road had combined in 2007 to have a sale but did not invited Beavers Road residents 'east' of St Georges Road (where we lived). See Map

I swore I would never organise another street sale in Beavers Road, and I never did. We did throw another sale (just our address) in 2008 which was a huge success.

This was the promo for the 2006 sale..
